Why traditional politicians continue to prosper.

Over the period of our government political history, it’s been noted that Traditional Politicians or “TRAPOS” continue to dominate the political scene come every election period.  Those familiar names from well known political families have established their own dynasties by continually handing down their political positions to their families as if they are inheritance.

There are two components in this vicious cycle of greed for power: one is the political family who will do all possible just so they can transfer their position to somebody that belongs to their clan (preferably of the same surname). These are the main perpetrators of this cycle and they have mastered the system and acclimated themselves so well that they know exactly the methodology of keeping their political offices at all cost. These are the same people who don’t believe in the ideology of  many, but rather insist and propel their own personal interests.

The second component is the common people who are in the midst of this quagmire of economic challenges and think that their only better option is to cling to and patronize the “Big Names” in politics, sans the intellectual and sincere qualities to serve. It is not new to us to see droves of supporters following a “Big Name” candidate, but why?  Is it because this politician has, one way or another, helped them on a personal basis? Is it because when someone needed help for burial services, this “Big Name” politician stepped in? I believe that these are wrong gauges of appraising a politician of his capacity/ability to lead and govern. If these politicians are sincere and intellectual enough they should have incorporated this kind of help system in their government so that not only the selected few can have access to it but rather the entire populace. They should have established a long lasting solution to the problems that we are facing rather than trying to put out fires with little buckets of water, so to speak.

We have deep rooted problems in our country that is being made worse, term by term, by these so-called “TRAPOS” who are very quick to claim glorious resume of their “acomplishments” while in office. My fellow Filipinos, no matter how good these people are in “window dressing”, the truth will always prevail. We are one of the poorest nations, one of the most corrupt, one of the most unsafe; the list can go on…and on.

I challenge everyone to drastically drive the wheel of change and stop this vicious cycle in this coming election. STAY AWAY FROM “TRAPOS”,  they are “Career politicians”, NOT real servants.
